Reflection

Multi camera production reflection

  1. Have you completed your share of the planning?
I have completed my share of the planning and I was given the responsibility of doing the research as well as the location recce.

  2. Has your team completed planning for your production? If not what is missing?
We have still got a lot to plan out for example we need to work a lot more on the questions as well as how the answers will be revealed. We also need to work out what the winning team will get as a prize. The script is still to be done due to having to change things around a lot to make it less completed during the final production of the show.

  3. Do you think you pulled your weight in the group during the planning phase?
I have worked hard when it came to the planning phase as i took over certain tasks for example I had to work on the name , the logo and the colour scheme of the show as well as how the furniture and items we will be using will be set out. I also wrote the questions which was a backup.

  4. What have your strengths been whilst developing your studio production?
I think my strengths were developing ideas further or finding replacements for example I had to write questions which was used for back up. Moreover, I was also able to sit with each and every person in my group to work out how we can make something better or what they thought of an idea which helped me for the research evidence as their opinions and thoughts helped me work out what content would be better for the show.

  5. What do you think you need to work on in terms of planning/pre – production and working as part of a team?
I think I need to change my pre- production a bit more as Alex has changed her mind on certain things as it was her initial idea meaning that I had to change things in my pre-production that I already completed. I also think that when it comes to working as a team we need to make sure that everyone is sure of the idea and how things are going to work when it comes to filming the show as when we rehearsed for it some of us were still confused about what was going to happen or when each thing was going to take place.

  6. What different roles have you tried in the studio and which role did you enjoy the most?
I have tried the roles of being a floor manager, vision mixer and working the teleprompter. I have enjoy being the floor manager and the vision mixer the most as I felt as if I could do it better than working on another role for example when it came down to being the floor manager I felt like it was a lot easier for me to be communicating with everyone which helped things run smoothly. I also enjoyed being the vision mixer as working alongside the director to see how and when to change cameras or add transitions was a good experience especially when it was my first time. Another reason I enjoyed being the vision mixer was because I had the choice of what transitions of things I can add to make the show better, the director also gave me ideas.

  7. What do you want to work on in the studio?
I think I want to try and work on the other roles as well for example working behind the camera or even the sound as I haven’t tried it yet.

  8. What are the strengths of your team?
The strength of my team involves making decisions together so that we all know how it might affect everyone instead of making a decision without everyone knowing about it for example when the idea changed a bit or even when we were discussing the prize for the winning team, we had a group meeting where we all tried to think of ideas together instead of it being made between 2 or 3 people.

  9. What does your team need to work on in the studio to be more professional?
I think we need to discuss how we want things to be ran with the people that will be on our game show first as we always find it difficult to communicate with the people that are taking part in it. We also need to have a group meeting where we tell each other what will take place and when as well working on communicating with each other better.

  10.  How have you managed your time in terms of meeting deadlines and producing work for this project?
I have managed my time in terms of meeting deadlines and producing work for this project by setting myself a target on what I am going to achieve or what I will get done by what date so that I am not behind on something. Furthermore, if an idea was changed I always make sure I change my pre-production work around so that it can be handed in. I always try to make sure the work I need to do is done on time as sometimes people in my team have to do their pre-production work or planning based on the work I do meaning that I have to finish mine off by a specific so that it’s not putting everyone else down.

  11. How have you managed your time in terms of the project, attendance and punctuality?
I have managed my time by making sure I am not late to lessons especially when there are group meetings and work that has to be done and handed in. I have also been down for all the lesson so that I am not missing out on anything.

  12. In what ways have you been organised for this project?
I have been organised for this project by making sure that I am in for all the lesson on time and putting in a high amount of involvement as well as completing my work and other tasks on time.

  13. How could you be more helpful to your team for this production?
I can be more helpful towards my team by thinking of solutions for the things we might be finding difficult or by working alongside other team members who are finding it hard to do something.

  14. What are the weakness of your team?
I think the weakness of my team is explaining what is happening to each other or to the people that are taking part in the show as not explaining things always cause problems when we get into the studio as everyone starts to get confused at some point.

  15. What grade do you think you deserve for unit 23 and why?
I think I deserve a D because I personally feel like I put in a lot of effort in as well as even helping with other team member’s work and roles as well as trying out new roles I haven’t done before and working appropriately with it.

  16. What grade do you think you deserve for unit 4 and why?
I think I deserve a D/M as I managed my time well as I haven’t been absent or late to any lessons which means I didn’t miss out on anything which could have gone on to help me with my other work.

Feedback from Ivor

Ivor who is a professional and has written script for a variety of shows came into give us tips to improve our game show as well as to help us develop it by making it even better. When Ivor came in we presented our group presentation to him and Me , Ryan and Yasin represented our group to explain what it was about as well as to go through the presentation. He was impressed with our idea but he did have some improvements that he suggested to us.

He was also a bit confused about the name of the game show we chose which was 'In it to win it' he told us that there is already another show on BBC which is called the exact same thing so he suggested it to us that we should always check if the name we choose isn't already used anywhere else as that is something that is not really allowed to do in the real world.

He also told us that we need to try and build up each round of the game show so that there van be some tension and suspense between the teams which will make the audience feel more intrested and attracted to the show.

When he saw the presentation he said we need to think about the audience more as they need to try and understand the aim of the game show a lot more as he felt as if the information we used did get confusing. We were also told to think about the time the game show will be airing on TV  as that will have a impact on the game show as if you air it on a time where everyone is at work or busy then there won't be many people to watch the show which won't help the game show from going on.

Ivor also suggested to us that we should try and make the game show more entertaining for example the host should be really funny by adding some jokes there and here during the show so that the audience will have something to laugh about instead of it being just tensed all the time as that is not the best way to keep a game show going. We also had to think more about the script as he didn't think it was long enough to be an appropriate amount to be used in the game show.

All these ideas were taken into consideration in our next group meeting and we all tried to make as much improvements as we could so that the game show turned out to be decent.

TV Studio pictures and explanation

This shows how we set out the tables during the practice of our game show as well as how the host was introducing the teams. The host is placed in the middle of the two teams to make it aware to the audience who the host is as well as well as to give Jenny 'The host' to feel like she is the one who has got the important role of giving a good feel and suspense to the show. The teams are placed facing against each other to build up suspense as well as to make them feel like they are really competing against each other to win prizes. We got the idea of the set from other shows as well as getting inspired by some movies we watched during our research we conducted.

This picture shows some of the members of our group taking on their role as camera man as they have the responsibility of filming the show using the right shots when they need to as well as being aware that the director will be communicating with them through out the process so that they are always on the right track of what they need to do.

Survey

Today I had to make surveys to give out to people so that we could find the answers of the questions from a survey of 100 people. Each of us had to get a survey from 10 people each so that at the end when we put all out surveys together we had answers from a 100 people. We came up with this idea because then we would get fair results to put forward to the game show. I did have to conduct more surveys after because not everyone from our group done all 10. After doing the survey i had to help Alex record the answers on the computer so that it is easy to understand and use when it came to the game show. Me and Alex also had to record the most popular answers on a different document before putting it together and printing it out to be used.

We separated some questions and answers from the others so that some can be used for the practice sessions in the TV studio and the others can be used when we finally came to filming so that it was more competitive as then the people taking part in the game show wouldn't know the answers to the questions.

Group Meeting

During this group meeting we talked about the positive points as well as the negative so that we know what we were doing good on and what we weren't doing so well on , as a group. We spoke about how the questions and the points should be revealed and we came up with the idea that using a whiteboard and sticking the questions on to the white board then revealing it one by one would be better than using the TV screen as using that had a lot of complication. We thought Lizzy as the Floor manager should be the one who records the points as it was easier due to her being there already as well as she being able to focus on it better than anyone else. We also discussed the ideas we had based on the lighting , we all came up with the idea that we should use different colored laser lights to give that exciting feeling when the show starts as well as grabbing the attention of the audience a lot more due to how bright and colorful it will be. I also thought that using the different colored laser lights will give our show a more unique feeling as game shows don't usually come up with something like that which will make our game show a lot more better for the guests to be taking part as well as for the audience to watch.

Practice in TV Studio

We went into the TV studio to do a Practice of the game show In it to win it , when we went in we all had a talk of how things are going to run. After everyone was ready and set up we started to go for the first practice run which didn't go as planned but we didn't expect it to run smoothly as it was one of our first practice sessions. I think what affected us was that everyone was still unsure about how the game actually ran and i also felt like my group didn't think properly about the rules we wanted to use for the game show as it didn't work out as planned. The roles were taken on pretty well even though we didn't have all the team members there on time which was a bit of a hassle as we didn't have enough people to cover each role. I felt like i did take on my role well even though i was learning new things about being a vision mixer step by step as it was my first time. After a few practices some parts of the game show did improve but we did have to take down notes on what needed improvement as without changing things around it would never have run smoothly. I think the main issue was about how we are going to present the questions as well as the points for it as we didn't know if it was possible to use the TV screen or not which meant we had to think of back up plans for that. All the notes we made will be used for a discussion in our group meetings so that we can decide as a group on what we need to change around to make the game show as good as we possibly could.
